xxSOLDxxPipe Bag Beaded And Quilled, Late 19thC or Early 20thC

Beaded and quilled native American pipe bag, Ca. 1890-1920

This Sioux pipe bag was probably constructed in the early 20th century from an earlier beaded bag or perhaps a beaded legging.  The heavily beaded middle section is probably from an earlier bag which wore out and then was reconstructed.  All parts are native tanned with the upper throat being heavier elk hide, the middle beaded section is early native tanned deer hide.  The quilled and fringed lower section is also deer hide but of a later date than the mid-section.  The bag is sewn with sinew, the beads are lazy stitched with 10 beads to the stitch.  I believe the quill work is a modern restoration.  SOLD

Condition:  Composition constructed circa 1890-1920 using an earlier beaded tube and constructing the upper throat with native tanned elk hide and the lower quilled section using native tanned deer hide of a later date.  Quill work probably restored.
