xxSOLDXX NEW ORLEANS COFFIN HILT BOWIE KNIFE with Original Sheath $1650.

From the Jim Dresslar Collection

I acquired this Bowie knife about 25 years ago from Jim Dresslar. Its pedigree is unmistakably New Orleans and Civil War vintage. Remarkably, it retains its original sheath which is completely intact. The knife measures 11 1/4 inches overall with a 6 1/2 inch spear point blade. The blade is nearly 1/4 inch thick (medial ridge to medial ridge). The knife is in perfect condition with spear point blade being sharpened the length of the knife blade on both sides. Each side has a pronounced medial ridge. The coffin hilt has raised checkered walnut grips with mullered boarders fastened to the knife with eight silver pins. The brass crossguard is cast in two pieces and brazed together to form the guard and measures 2 inches in length. After having studied both Flayderman "The Bowie Knife Book" and Adams, Voyles, & Moss' "The Antique Bowie Knife Book", it appears that this knife could have been influenced if not made by Dufilho or Pradel though it is unsigned.  **SOLD**

Condition: The knife is in excellent condition which shows it age through wear, but not abuse. One slab of its walnut grips has a 1/4 inch stable crack running from the foremost rivet to the end of the slab terminating in the crossguard (see pics).  The leather sheath is also in excellent condition with no cuts or dropped stitching on the sheath and the leather beltloop is also present and complete.
